Hi, I’m Marit Kirkevold, Professor of Nursing Science at University of Oslo, Norway and at Aarhus University, Denmark and I’m member of Regional Education Advisory Group. I’ve finished Ulleval school of Nursing 1981, and then received Bachelor of Nursing Science (1984), Master of Education (1986) and Doctor of Education ( Ed.D. 1989) from Columbia University, New York. I was Fulbright scholar and guest researcher at School of Nursing, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1997-98.
I’ve conducted numbers of studies, particularly in the area of living with the consequences of chronic conditions, rehabilitation and nursing care of stroke patients and caring issues related to the frail elderly. A major interest is knowledge development within practice disciplines, focusing on the relationship between scientific knowledge and the clinical practice of nurses.

Ann-Cathrin Jönsson, Associate Professor
Lund University, Sweden
As a registered nurse I started to develop my competence in neuroscience at the department of neurosurgery and as a specialist nurse in neurointensive care at the university hospital in Lund, Sweden. In my PhD dissertation in Neurology at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, my focus was outcome after stroke. After that I have published several other studies regarding post-stroke care. Most of my studies have been performed by individual meetings with the participants and based on observations, measurements, and the patients’ own reports, i.e. a patient-centered approach.
As a senior lecturer at the Department of Health and Society, Malmö University, and at the Department of Health Sciences, Lund University, I have been active as a teacher in the BSc program in nursing, the MSc specialist nursing program, as well as interdisciplinary courses focusing on health care of persons with neurological diseases. As a teacher as well as in my research I have been emphasizing the benefits of interdisciplinary co-operation in the stroke team to optimize the post-stroke care, and this is of course also important in relation to other neurological diseases. The aim in my research has also been to find evidence- based nursing interventions to enhance outcome after stroke for the patient and if possible to reduce the burden on the health care system.
