Welcome message:

DON CAMERON

PRESIDENT, GASTROENTEROLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA

Do come and join us for Gastro 2015 the AGW–WGO International Congress to be held in Brisbane, Australia, from 28 September to 2 October 2015.

Australian Gastroenterology Week - AGW - is the annual scientific meeting of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. In 2015, GESA will be joining with the World Gastroenterology Organisation to present this exciting international meeting which will bring together the best of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition for clinicians, researchers, scientists, nurses and other health professionals. We will also be joined by the Australasian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

The core program will comprise state of the art lectures and symposia on basic, clinical and translational research, and new directions. There will be demonstrations of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Genetics, metabolomics and proteomics are emerging issues in gastroenterology and we look forward to exploring new research in these areas. The global burden of gastrointestinal and liver disease will also be a major part of our program. There will be plenty of opportunity for new research to be showcased in free paper and poster sessions.

There will, of course, be many opportunities to meet old friends and colleagues, as well as forge new alliances to advance research in gastroenterology and hepatology, nationally and internationally.

Beyond the meeting itself, Brisbane is the vibrant capital of Queensland, which is Australia’s sunshine state. I hope you will also have the time to enjoy the many attractions that Brisbane has to offer - a welcoming environment with sunshine, beaches, parklands and a wide variety of wining, dining and shopping experiences. It’s a long way to come, but it is well worth the visit and even better if you are able to journey further afield in Queensland, other parts of Australia and New Zealand.

On behalf of GESA and the organising committee, we look forward to welcoming you and showing you good Australian hospitality. Thank you for coming and contributing. It will be a great meeting.
