Joseph Beltempo, PhD
Dr. Beltempo is currently an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department of Concordia University (Montreal), teaching courses spanning the spectrum of clinical and research areas; prior to his recent appointment to this position, he had served as a Lecturer in the Psychology Department since 1984. His clinical training was in Gestalt and Cognitive psychology at the University of Montreal. His approach takes into account the holistic (systemic) ways reflecting Native cultural perspectives together with contemporary clinical psychology. 

Since 1982, Dr. Beltempo, senior clinical psychologist, has been working for Kahnawake Shakotiia'takenhas Community Services, a Mohawk Community. His clinical work has largely focused on addiction, mental health, dual diagnosis, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and various methods of clinical intervention. He is an active member of the FASD committee since 2003 and has received extensive training in diagnostics. He is also a Clinical site (Kahnawake) supervisor of Doctoral Interns in Psychology from Concordia and McGill University. For two years he was the Coordinator for the Kahnawake Outreach Project, which was established to deal with the after-effects of the 1990 Mohawk Crisis. He is the father of three young adults and married since 1980.

Dr. Beltempo received his B.A. in Psychology from McGill University. He earned his Master's (MA, 1979) and PhD (1985) in Research & Clinical Psychology from Université de Montréal. He is a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec since 1979.
